As one of three, my journey has always circled back to family and sisterhood-- but it would not have been without my community that I would confidently shift into the next chapter.
My name is Alia and I'm the 2nd Nut. While the story behind the name originated from a quote on a flower pot that my older sister gave me (shout-out to Biggie Midoun!) and my younger sister when we moved in together, over the course of Three Nuts inception, it has become clear to me that I am part of multiple trios of nuts in different aspects of my life. The one most have now become familiar with by meeting us at markets is my Number 1 Nut and partner-in-life, Rod, and our sweet and mischievous fur child, Tallulah.
TALES OF A 2nd NUT
Three Nuts was born in the aftermath of a hurricane. Literally. A time where a lot of folks were wondering, where do we go from here? There was sadness and despair, but there was also a glimmer of something else: Hope, community, perseverance, connection. Like many in the present rapidly changing world, I found myself craving something more.
Food has always been a part of my journey. It has taught me about life, culture and chemistry. It's been a way for me to share my story with others, past, present and future.Â
For the past 12 years, my passion for flavor brought me to the craft beer industry, commencing my tenure as Head Brewer and Head of Production. My journey into the beverage world allowed me to grow in many ways. It challenged my senses, creativity, structure and eye for detail. It taught me to connect with my ingredients and the people behind them. It showed me that whatever I created would fill me with a sense of pride and passion as I witnessed the final rendition enjoyed in the hands and stomachs of friends and strangers alike.
Food has always been a way for me to share and connect with others. The manifestation of Three Nuts came after Hurricane Helene as I channeled my energy into creating sweet confections for the people around me. I found myself playing with ingredients in a new way, exploring unique flavors and giving blends silly names. I didn’t just want the butters to taste good, I wanted them to intrigue the senses, make you giggle, fill people with emotions they can’t explain. What started as a way to help heal and commune, evolved into something new. As my relationships with the people around me grew stronger, so did excitement surrounding my creations.Â
